Mt Eliza U8 Red 4 v Mornington 3 Saturday
The Mt Eliza U8 Reds survived a tough test to sneak in a home win against a great Mornington side. Glorious conditions greeted players and
spectators alike as we well welcomed our great neighbours from Mornington to the beautiful Emil Madsen Reserve. Mornington gave us a real
run for our money last time we played them - so the boys knew they were in for a contest. However, the game started slowly and our usual
defensive discipline was a somewhat lacking. Despite this, Christian Bethune was having a super game in defense and was constantly winning
the ball - driving it forward with some scintillating runs and passes. He was well rewarded for his efforts soon after in a link up play
with striker Luke Batey (who also looked in good touch). Christian connected beautifully on Luke’s neat back pass to drive the ball with
real power through the air and over the keepers head into the top corner of the goal from the half way line. This was a carbon copy of the
goal he scored against Mt Martha the last time he was in defense - showing that it was no fluke. Lewis Jedynak also continued his great
form and was a tireless worker in attacking mid-field, constantly winning the ball and had a great game. Max Silk also played his defensive
mid-field role to perfection - often covering for the loss of formation when required. The introduction of Austen Bettess from the bench
had further impact as he challenged well to create some nice chances and he soon scored after collecting the ball in the mid-field and took
it well in to space to fire home a super strike. However, the team’s defensive deficiencies were still there, with some players seeking to
display some newly learned skills rather than the mundane but effective clearing of the area. This gave Mornington more chances than some
would have liked - culminating in a defensive throw in that was taken too centrally, enticing a contest that looped the ball back into the
Reds goal mouth to be well finished by Mornington past our brave keeper Thomas Allison and take us to a 2-1 lead at the break. In the
second half, the Reds created numerous chances but they either could not finish clinically or found their shots well saved by the
Mornington keeper. A free kick was then given away near our goal and the direct free kick was very well taken by the Mornington player
giving Ewan Barnes no chance in goal as scores were tied at 2-2. Christian was then quietly subbed back on to the field and had immediate
impact, allowing Angus Goodinson (looking tanned and healthy after some surf time in Bali) to link up with a killer pass to Elliot Melder,
who found himself 1-1 with the keeper and fired home powerfully from the first touch (knocking the goals over in the process) to re-gain the
Reds the lead and cement his reputation as a wonder kid goal scoring opportunist. Christian then rounded out his game with a wonderful brace
to take the score to 4-2. Job done in about 2 minutes. He was immediately subbed back off to the quite applause of a relieved coach.
However, the game was not over yet as Mornington, who had some players that could really strike the ball, found some space for one of their
strikers on the right mid-field. He then stuck the ball so well that all the Red players, who were almost all behind the ball at the time,
watched it zip past and between them and into the corner of the net to take the scores to 4-3. What a game. This resulted in a few tense
minutes where the team was well served by players like and Callum Helmore and Alfie Siveyer-Main who both dropped back in defense to plug
gaps and help see the boys sneak home to a lucky win. Phew… Player of the Day was a simple decision as Christian Bethune had clearly been
the best player on the ground. He was instrumental in scoring an amazing goal and saved the day for his team mates and coach by coming back
on to the ground to turn the tide and score again when his team needed him most.

So we were very lucky with the weather again today. We had a amazing win today with the score being 8-4 Ethan and Felipe kicked a amazing 4
goals each. We had a great defence team again, Two amazing goal keepers Noah S and Tadhg. Amazing team work and great game.
U9 Yellow
The team played away at the Brighton Zombies. Brighton were very attacking in the first half making it a big challenge for our boys. Special
mention to Archie for fantastic defending, whilst Will played a terrific all round game switching between attack & defence. Ben,
although playing in defence, provided plenty of run in attack also.
In the second half, the team defended really well, preventing Brighton from scoring.
It’s always a challenge playing the Zombies & they were the better team on the day.

Gorgeous morning at Emil Madsen. Freddie still in Ireland, Jack up at the snow, Xander and
Ethan Weiser sprained ankles. Very grateful this morning for Anthony and Fox from u10 Green and Noah Sheen from U9 orange. Thanks to
Simon Sheen for coaching while Kane is playing away and Tomi writing, and thanks to David for being our ref. Great goals from Anthony, Fox
and Ethan Sheen - all in the first half - couldn’t quite match Chelsea’s team of strikers. Final score 3-4 to Chelsea.

Skye 1 - 3 Mt.Eliza U12 Orange
A good away win this morning from the boys. It was a much closer game than the scoreline suggests. It was 0-0 at half time and the Orange
team went behind a goal early in the first half.But the team rallied and responded with a quick goal from Josh, then one form Kai into the
roof of the net from close range after a good throw-in play, and a lovely run by Josh W to so seal the win with a 1:1 with the keeper, and
Josh doesn't tend to miss those ones.
Skye fought hard all game with Coby in goals for the second half, he had to work hard and he made 3 very good saves. One was right down his
throat but it was hit with a fair of welly behind it. Although our goal scorers Josh and Kai got the awards today, both always putting a
shift every Saturday, Ollie played a cracking game too, whether up front or out on the right wing. Our defensive unit of Nate, Josh W\E, Ben
and Manny are playing some great defence at the moment. They are getting plenty of cover from Billy, who wants to play more forward, but
can't help himself dropping back and helping out. Dom slotted into mideflield and defence seamlessley when he came out of goals and reminded
us he can pretty much play anywhere. Off to a slow start, once Jem got the pace of the game, he had a much better 2nd half, being part of
our very potent forward line. When we start playing wider and hitting our targets, we start making plenty of chances.

Rosebud SC 1 Mt Eliza U14 0
A sunny Sunday morning had the U14's travel away to Rosebud.
For the first 20 minutes, Mt Eliza had excellent possession in the Rosebud final 3rd. Employing a fast paced passing game, and created
multiple chances, and shots on goal, but couldn't convert. Rosebud had a couple of chances in the first half, but possession and intent was
with Mt Eliza.
The second half saw more of the same, but when Rosebud concertedly attacked for a period, they took the lead .
Mt Eliza rallied, and had possession for the remainder of the half, moving the ball and peppering the area with crosses, but were unable to
get the breakthrough they thoroughly deserved.
