Mt Eliza GreenThe first local derby for us. Both teams played well but the difference came down to the strikers for the Reds with Jack
scoring two goals and Ryan scoring once. Greens were unlucky not to get a goal with a shot just hitting the post. The final score 3-0.

Mt Eliza U8 Red 5 v Mt Martha (Pirates) 1
The Mt Eliza U8 Reds achieved a hard earned 5-1 win away to the Mt Martha Pirates
The team warmly welcomed the return of some key players and fielded a very strong team against a competitive Mt Martha side. We were only missing the zippy and creative Lewis Jedynak and his team mates look forward to his return next week.
The game was evenly poised in the opening stages with the Reds struggling to get forward as fluidly as they would like. However, the strong defensive line up of Christian Bethune and Elliot Melder held firm and worked hard to repell Mt Martha’s attempts to go forward. Both defenders were called upon to make key tackles and prevent our star keeper Angus Goodinson from making too many saves - showing the competitive nature of the opposition.
Despite his defensive role, the scoring was once again opened by Christian Bethune who pounced upon a loose ball around the half way line and thumped it with his trademark powerful right boot. The crowd was enthralled as the ball sailed in the air, bounced high over the Mt Martha keeper’s head and slotted neatly into the back of the goal. Christian certainly has an eye for scoring. Callum Helmore also had good chances up forward, hitting the post, while Luke Batey created opportunities to score. However, the Reds struggled to link up the last pass in the forward zone that would have provided that clear shot on goal.
Despite this pressure Mt Martha lost none of their composure or structure and continued to defend well, most notably through Tilly who looks like a young Matilda in the making, and also pressed forward on the counter. They neatly worked their way behind our defense and their striker calmly slotted home a nice goal to take us to 1-1 at the break.
The Reds then picked up their tempo in the second half. Callum moved into goal while Elliot was joined by Angus and Thomas Allison in defence. These defenders worked well as a team and provided great coverage and rebounding into attack for the fast running attackersAusten Bettess and Max Silk, with Austen creating some looks at goal that started to show cracks in the Mt Martha defence. In addition, Elliot showed great flare to make a number of attacking runs up the left wing in the style of a true full back where he create chances - including a shot from a remarkable angle that hit the upright post, bounced onto the keeper, hit the post again and then came out.
The turning point of the game was again the re-introduction of Christian in to an attacking mid-field role and also the addition of Alfie Siveyer-Main as centre forward. Christian and Austen teamed up well and applied huge pressure on the Mt Martha defence. Austen soon found himself creating space with ease and finished twice with his trademark powerful shot to record a rapid brace and put the game out of reach. No to be out done, Christian also slotted home a nice goal to notch his well-earned brace, while Ewan Barnes, who replaced Thomas Allison, continued our defensive dominance from the back 3.
However, the moment that will be talked about by this team for quite some time happened in the final seconds of the game. Alfie, who had placed himself well upfront numerous times - but had lacked regular service - finally saw a quality bouncing ball from defence and sprinted clear to strike beautifully on the half-volley from +10 metres and watch rocket it into the top left-hand corner of the goal. This was a strike that even Matt Ryan himself would have struggled to save and was Alfie’s first ever goal for the team and club. It could not have been more impressive.
The celebration of Alfie and his team mates, who piled upon him in joyous festivity, was a truly a sight to behold. It was clear recognition for us all there that moments like this are why we all are dedicated to our kids and their sport - as money just can’t buy moments like that.
The ‘Player of the Game’ award went to the brilliant Elliot Melder who, inspired by the presence of his grandfather, played a cracking game in defense holding the team together in the first half and helping open the game up in the second. He was both disciplined, never shirking his defensive responsibilities, but also creative and attacking when his team needed him. His coaches could not have asked for more.
Special thanks to Damien who again refereed the game in the absence of a home supplied ref and is a star. Further special thanks to coaches Dion, Damien, Paul and Shane for all their help during my absence and the rest of the season. You guys are great! All played well again. What a team. Go Reds!

Another great day with wonderful weather, We played against Langwarrin at their grounds. We won with the score 1-3. We felt like everyone of
our players could of got Best on Ground everyone played their personal best. Noah Sheen kicked his first goal. Great day.
U9 Yellow
Another great performance by the Mt Eliza Yellow Under 9’s!
Play was set up from the back with Charley, Callum & Oihan playing pivotal roles.
Phoenix was in control of the midfield giving his teammates out wide the opportunity to push forward resulting in multiple goals.
The 2nd half was a big test for the boys as the Brighton team applied a lot of pressure on our defence for the first 10 minutes.
To the credit of our team, we managed to score and then gain control back to finish the game on top.
Charley played a terrific game in both defence and in the forward half and he was deserving of this week’s coaches award.

What a game! Its always so much fun to play against some of our Kunyung school friends who play for Mornington - especially when we win!

Hampton Dreamers 3 – 0 Mt Eliza U10 Girls
Much better performance from the U10 girls this week at
their preferred home ground (must be the stream train going past) and they were definitely more competitive than last week’s away game at
Sandringham. The first half started in a promising way with the girls using the wings and space once again to great effect with some great
attacking plays. When they use the space and pass well they look amazing. They were stronger on the ball and tackling harder than last week
which put the Dreamers under more pressure & opened up scoring chances. Making her debut, Mia Jordan put in a great effort in attack &
we look forward to great things to come from her! Gemma Gilchrist did a great job in goal and Chloe Morgan again impressed with big kicks
through the midfield. Towards the end of the first half, however, for about 10 minutes we left our defence very undermanned by not running
back and the Dreamers capitalized on this and put in 3 goals in the short space of 10 minutes. It was a lapse that unfortunately put us
chasing the Dreamers for the rest of the game when with a stronger defence, we could have stayed with them. To their credit, these girls
don’t give up and they came out and put in a much better second half Our defence strengthened up, led by Hannah Murton as keeper (earning
player of the match) and we didn’t concede a goal (well, only one controversial one that we know if we’d gone to the video referee would
have been disallowed – no offence Ollie – so we aren’t counting that one!) and the girls continued to attack with several close ‘almost’
goals led by Indi Bryant, Leyla Ay and Charles' passionate cries of 'It's the big white thing at the end of the pitch!!" (had we told them
this?!)
The girls just have to put a complete, consistent game together each week for this group of misfits to be a formidable team! Each week is
different but their growth, sense of fun and team spirit continue to shine through! Next week girls, there should be no one showing any
energy after the game when playing kick to kick! We want you exhausted!
U11 Green
Today we played Aspendale Whalers - a sharp and well rehearsed outfit who like to press high and run at defences. The game started with
a series of Aspendale attacks and it took us a while to settle, particularly as some players were playing in unfamiliar positions.
Both teams had opportunities in the first half that weren't taken. Indigo came off at the end of the half with a recurring knee injury. At
half time we spoke about going out as if it was the first half again and not get caught out by soft defensive errors or on the break. Quite
quickly we went 1 nil up with a cracking goal from Kian. Shortly afterwards Aspendale equalised. Their keeper then put the
ball down for a goal kick while the ball was still in play and Harry stole the ball and scored. Aspendale then got another
equaliser and kept attacking forcing some outstanding defending from Will, Thomas and Tom
and some composed goalkeeping from Benji. Towards the end of the game Aspendale scored an own goal after some great
pressure from Tommy, Louie, Harry and Kian leaving the final score at 3-2 to Mt Eliza.
Player of the match went to Kian for some amazing footwork as striker.

The boys played East Bentleigh Thunder away and after their magnificent performance last week, they
struggled to find the opposition goal, even though they dominated the game and time and time again went close with great build play coming
from the wings. The Thunder caught the Blues on a quick counter attack to get the first goal of the game to go in 1 nil at half time. The
second half was much like the first, chances came and went and the Blues just couldnt put the ball in the net from their position of
dominance. Then against play the Thunder got their second from an opportunist shot from halfway line to catch the boys napping and lead 2
nil. The boys kept pushing and were thrown a lifeline when a well struck Fletch corner found Christian free at the back post who buried a
bullet header into the back of net.. The Blues were now playing with some real purpose and putting the Thunder under relentless pressure,
their keeper pulled off a string of fine saves to help keep the scoreline 2-1 to finish the game with 3 valuable points dropped for the
Blues. MOTM Fletcher Williams, who worked his socks off the whole game.
U12 Green
Greens vs Reds 3-4
Bit of a disappointing result for us as we know it is a game we should have won with ease.
But as normal, when you don't convert opportunities they will come back to bite you, and today was an example of that.
5 what should should been easy goals found themselves off mark, when it is too easy...it becomes just that.
With only 2 mins to go and locked at 3-3, it was disappointing when a fumble in front of goal lead to what was a very easy
conceding goal. All credit to the Reds who had never say die attitude and came away with the points that we needed.
On the positive side, boys had a wake up call they needed.

An entertaining game on Saturday saw a draw but left the Orange team with a sense of leaving all 3 points on the table. The boys worked hard
all game, did all the right things but just couldn't find the net to seal the game, despite hitting the post on numerous occasions, spurning
a few open goals and consistently playing in the Strikers half.

Casey Comets FC Jono - 11 vs Mt Eliza U12 Gold - 0
The team did an amazing job today playing against Casey Comets who are 2nd on the ladder, especially with no subs. Each of the boys played
the best they've played all season. Well done Alex on your MOTM award. You played the best you possibly could and your tackles were
fantastic. Keep trying your best, as you did on Saturday. Excellent job to Luca & Lincoln for working very hard to win the ball and for
running all game. There are a few things to work on at training this week. Firstly, passing down the line rather than kicking to the middle
of the pitch on goal kicks. Another area of focus is for the midfield to get back to assist in defence as quickly as possible. Overall
though the boys showed tremendous effort to play Saturday's match following on from a heavy day of school sport, on Friday. Thank you to
Angelo & Innes for being our fresh legs! We hope Danny and Ernie recover from their injuries, they were sorely missed this weekend.

Reds vs Glen Eira 8-1
Very good game today as the Reds have had 2 weeks off from playing.
Personally I was dreading it, as normally when leading the ladder, then having 2 games off while others are still playing
can be downfall. But today, the Reds played like they hadn't missed a game and continued right where they left off 2 weeks earlier.
VERY proud moment of the day was Shawn Guo scored his 1st goal and set up a BEAUTIFUL cross for Isaac to finish with class.
Shawn over the weeks has worked so HARD to be where he is now, and was most deserving.
1 goal, 1 assist and one near goal is something to be VERY VERY proud off.

Brighton 2 Mt Eliza U14's 0.
Bright Sunny conditions (thank goodness) for our away game.
Once again we were unlucky not to get on the score sheet, despite some good build up play, and some great crosses, it wasn't to be.
The team worked hard through the entire game, battling for possession and continuing to try and carve out shots on goal.
Mt Eliza again had the best of play for the first 20 minutes, but were unable to capitalise on their dominance.
As time wore on, the game opened up, and Brighton were able to find space in the second half which resulted in their goals.
Mt Eliza continued to work hard, and were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty when Oscar was bowled over with a clear opportunity on
goal, however, this didn't daunt them, and they continued to work hard and create chances.
