Referees

All teams Under 7-11 need to supply a Ref for home games. We encourage this to be a volunteer member of the parent group, as is common practice for community clubs at a Junior level.  This can also be an older sibling over 13yo - with a minimum 2 year age gap from the team they are officiating.  A current ruleset is listed under Coach Development, and is available directly on request. 

If you are unable to secure a volunteer referee, an alternative is for the parent group to hire one from the older age playing group.

Please note: Junior Referees are generally to be engaged on an ad hoc basis, and may not always be available due to other commitments. 

All teams Under 12 & up are often officiated by an independent Referee provided by Football Victoria, however we have recently found a shortage of referees, so it is best practice is to have a Backup (Parent)  in case Football Victoria cannot not supply someone.
A weekly list is provided on Fridays advising of any games that will not have a Ref.  

It is also our responsibility to supply 1 Assistant Referee at all Home & Away games. This person will usually be Lineman during the match, however based on the recent referee shortage, we encourage TM's to create a roster of parents who are able to assist as needed. 

Please note the chance of hiring a Assistant Referee/Lineperson when you are playing away is unlikely.

If you wish to hire a Referee or Assistant Referee from the playing group the below Minimum rates are advised.

Under 7-9's

 $15 min Per Game (Paid by the Parents of the Team who need the Referee)

Under 10 -11's

 $20 min Per Game (Paid by the Parents of the Team who need the Referee)

Under 12+ Referee
(Referee Match Fee as supplied by the club)

Under 12 – 15                $45
Under 16                       $50
Under 17 - 21                 $75

Under 12 and up, the club will reimburse any payment made to a club player who referees a game due to no Football Victoria Referee attending.

**Note** Under 12 and up should be supplied a Referee from Football Victoria.  If Football Victoria cannot supply the referee, you will be advised by the club Friday Afternoon. Under 12 and up, Please do not book a Referee unless you have been advised there will be no Football Victoria Referee for your game.

**As of Round 1 2026 Football Victoria Referees are paid directly by Football Victoria you do not need to pay a Football Victoria Official
